On January 5th, Epiphany's Eve, when ghosts and spirits are on the loose - as they are on the night before all feastdays - is when good Italian children hope for presents delivered by La Bephana, the Epiphany Witch, who rides around on her broomstick and children knock on doors demanding treats. It’s wise, therefore, to bake up a batch of Bephana biscuits to hand out to anyone who knocks (you never know who it might be…).
