The nuns of the Convent of St. John the Divine on the Aegean island of Patmos made this gorgeous orange and honey cake as the special Easter Sunday treat. Sweet things are particularly welcome after the deprivations of Lent and the sorrows of Easter Week, and covent-sweets baked for the important holidays of the church year provided a useful source of income for cloistered nuns.
