Here it is, folks - after seventy years, the original recipe from a previous coronation in all its glory as devised by the great Constance Spry in 1953! Fabulously extravagant in all its parts (imported lemons, grapes, almonds, apricots, olive oil, eggs - my dear, the cream!) at a time when rationing was still in place after WW2. Better still, says the doyenne of Winkfield Place, a finishing school designed to equip future debutantes in how to catch a suitable husband (fancy that!), it’s a dish which could be prepared in advance so that the servantless cook-hostess could join the fun in the street. Pic below is me with my mum in the full Norman Hartnell at my coming-out ball in 1956 - and no, I didn’t catch a suitable husband, the very reverse (much more fun - further and better in My Life as a Wife). Yes indeed!

Hooray that you have the 1968 edition - congrats! - later editions lack my drawings. Charles, yes, well - not ideal. But apparently it's not the crowning but the constitution we're about to celebrate. Coronation chicken much more fun than fava-bean quiche, anyway.
How lovely to see you in your coming out dress. I don't think there are any pictures of my coming out drinks party (parents could not run to a dance) in 1977. I don't remember much about it or who was there. I wish I did.
